Church History

​

In November 1985, Rev. Dr. C Edwards Strong moved by The Holy Spirit placed an article in the Huber Heights Courier stating his desire to start a Baptist Church in the Huber Heights area. Eight people attended the first meeting and formed a Steering Committee which consisted of Charles Strong, Henry Williams, John Hollins, Charles Hill, Beverly Bond, Etta Green, and Marvine Matthews. The first worship service was held at the Greater Dayton Association of Baptist building on January 112, 1986 and twenty-one members committed themselves to the church. Greater Galilee Mission became Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church on April 13, 1986. Minister Henry Williams was a great help to Pastor Strong as he continued to pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio. Mrs. Sue White-Price joined Greater Galilee in 1986 and helped Pastor Strong develop a strong bible-teaching program. Here faithfulness and dedication in teaching God’s Word were a blessing and inspiration to all members.

An installation service was held for Pastor Strong on September 7, 1986. At the close of 1986, four new members were baptized, and Greater Galilee’s membership grew to fifty members. In February 1988. The first deacons were ordained. October 5, 1988 Greater Galilee purchased 7.2 acres of land in the 6600 block of Chambersburg Rd. Huber Heights, Ohio. The final payment of the land was made October 1989 without obtaining a bank loan. The LORD directed Pastor Strong not to build on this new purchased land and on December 8, 1991 Greater Galilee relocated from Wisenborn Elementary School to its current home 1001 Beatrice Drive Riverside, Ohio.

First Lady Vera Strong, Wife of Pastor Strong for 39 years, was called home to be with her LORD on March 14, 1998. In commemoration of her faithful service to the LORD and Greater Galilee Baptist Church, the Little Buds (children’s) Choir was renamed the Vera Strong New Buds Choir. Under Pastor Strong’s Leadership, Greater Galilee implemented a Learning Center, Food Pantry, and Prison Ministry.

On June 6, 2010 Pastor Strong entered into the presence of the LORD after serving twenty-four years as Pastor. In 2011, Associate Minister John Hollins was called to Pastor Greater Galilee where he served three months.

On April 6, 2013, Associate Minster Eric A. Burns was called to serve as Pastor of Greater Galilee. Being guided by the Holy Spirit, Bishop Eric A. Burns, Overseer, along with his God-Fearing wife, First Lady Kimberly M. Burns, truly are truly demonstrating the mind of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ in leading Greater Galilee. Under the Leadership of Pastor Burns, over thirty new members join and three new ministries unfolded: The Mother Board. The Media Ministry, and The Car Ministry. Pastor Burns, being led by the Holy Spirit, and with the support of the Executive Committee, and membership PAID Greater Galilee’s 5.029 Acreage of Land MORTAGE IN FIILL IN AUGUST OF 2015! ALL THE GLORY BELONGS TO GOD.

In January of 2018, two new Associate Ministers were called: First Lady Kimberly M. Burns and Sister Christobel Leftwich are serving as the first female Ministers in the history of Greater Galilee. During these Past thirty-three years, Greater Galilee has had many trials and tribulations, but through our faithfulness to the LORD, we are truly BLESED! As we face tomorrow, we lift our eyes to the hills, form whence cometh our help.
